On September 7, 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, received Igor Khovaev, the Special Representative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, to discuss the normalization of Azerbaijan-Armenia relations, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told APA.
The peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as the current situation in the region, were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that the statements, rhetoric, and provocations directed against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan by the Armenian side, which violate the peace agenda, undermine the efforts and initiatives aimed at ensuring lasting peace in the region. Despite Azerbaijan's commitment to demonstrating prudence in the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, it has been emphasized that Armenia's interference in our country's internal affairs is unacceptable.
It has been stated that Armenia's baseless claims about a "tense humanitarian situation" and "blockade" in the region, in the context of rejecting the proposal to intensify the use of the Lachin road parallel to the opening of the Aghdam-Shusha road, demonstrate that the situation is not humanitarian at all; on the contrary, it is of a political nature.
Especially in a situation where Armenia has increased its political and military provocations against Azerbaijan, the necessity of condemning such actions by the international community has been emphasized.
During the meeting, there was also an exchange of views on other mutually interesting issues.
