On January 22, 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, received the Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Radmila Šekerinská, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA.
During the meeting, the current cooperation agenda and prospects between Azerbaijan and NATO within the framework of partnership, the work carried out within partnership mechanisms, as well as regional and international security issues were discussed.
The parties noted the importance of cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO, stating that the dialogue and interaction implemented within the existing partnership framework make a positive contribution to regional security. Opportunities for cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO in demining, cyber security, and other areas were reviewed.
Azerbaijan’s experience in participating in NATO-led peace support operations and missions, its close support for processes in Afghanistan, reforms in the defence sector, and efforts undertaken to ensure interoperability were commended. The visit of a mission consisting of permanent representatives of NATO member states to Azerbaijan in November of last year was recalled with satisfaction.
During the meeting, information was also provided on the Azerbaijan–Armenia normalization process, diplomatic efforts and confidence-building measures aimed at ensuring sustainable and lasting peace in the region, the agreements reached within the framework of the August 8 Washington summit and peace prospects, as well as regional transport and connectivity projects.
The parties also exchanged views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
