Azerbaijan will not allow the exploitation of Gafan Airport as it threatens security - MP

"Armenia engages in all possible provocations so that peace is not achieved. But they forget that, right now Armenians need peace more”, Hikmet Babaoghlu, Deputy Chairman of the Defense, Security and Anti-Corruption Committee of Milli Majlis (Parliament), said during his speech, APA reports.

H. Babaoghlu said that military-strategic advantage and current international conditions are in favor of Azerbaijan.

The MP pointed out that the relief and geography of the Gafan region are very complex: “Because it is surrounded by the high peaks of the Lesser Caucasus and these peaks cross the state border of Azerbaijan, it is impossible for planes to take off and land without violating the airspace of Azerbaijan. Since the borders were conventional and common during the Soviet era, it was not considered a serious violation of which border the planes violated. But now we are talking about two independent and at the same time countries in a state of war due to Armenia's anti-peace policy.”

“Moreover, it is clear to everyone that Armenia will transport various types of weapons and ammunition to our borders through this airport and will do everything possible to use this port as a military port. Therefore, as in Europe, issues related to border airports are regulated by a special agreement between neighboring countries, and Armenians should do the same. Otherwise, an airport that is not agreed with Azerbaijan cannot operate at all. Azerbaijan will not allow the exploitation of such an object that threatens its security," said H. Babaoglu.
