A round table on "Russian-Azerbaijani Cooperation in the Changing Architecture of International Relations" was held at the Moscow State University of International Relations (MGIMO) of the Russian Foreign Ministry, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.

The event was organized on the initiative of the MGIMO Azerbaijan Club and with the support of the University’s Rectorate.

The roundtable was attended by MGIMO Rector Professor Anatoly Torkunov, Ambassador Rahman Mustafayev, representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the university’s faculty and professors, representatives of the Russian expert community, and Azerbaijani students studying at MGIMO.

Rector Torkunov spoke about MGIMO’s successful cooperation with a number of Azerbaijani universities. The Rector highly appreciated the active participation of Azerbaijani students in the academic and public life of the university.

Ambassador Rahman Mustafayev informed the participants of the roundtable about the priority directions of Azerbaijan’s current domestic and foreign policy. In particular, he spoke about Azerbaijan’s program for the restoration of the liberated territories and the process of returning internally displaced persons to their native lands.

The Ambassador also provided detailed information on the normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, including measures taken to build confidence. He emphasized that deepening regional cooperation with neighboring states within the frameworks of the Caspian Five, ‘3+3’, ‘Central Asia + Azerbaijan’, and the Organization of Turkic States is a priority in Azerbaijan’s foreign policy.

Speaking about the dynamics of Azerbaijan-Russia alliance relations, the Ambassador noted that they have withstood the test of time and the crisis related to the downing of an AZAL passenger plane in December of last year.

The Ambassador added that the meeting between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Russia in Dushanbe on October 9 this year was the first significant step in normalizing bilateral relations.

At the roundtable, representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, MGIMO faculty, and Russian political experts delivered speeches, and a detailed exchange of views was held on issues related to the Azerbaijan-Russia agenda.

The event concluded with a question-and-answer session.
