As for the rights and safety of the Armenian residents of Azerbaijan, as we have mentioned many times, Azerbaijan is determined to integrate its citizens of Armenian origin into its political, social, and economic space in accordance with the legislation and Constitution of Azerbaijan, providing equal rights to all its citizens, regardless of their national and ethnic origin," Ambassador Rovshan Sadigbeyli, the Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the OSCE, said this in his reply to the Head of the Foreign Ministry of Armenia at the meeting of the Permanent Council, APA reports.
Mr. Ambassador said that for this purpose, Azerbaijan has made consistent and successful efforts to interact with local Armenian residents and to solve important issues related to water, transport and energy supply in the region.
"The government has appointed a special representative for dialogue with local Armenian residents in order to discuss issues related to their reintegration: "After the first meeting of the special representative with local Armenians, the Armenian side blocked the next stage of discussions in Baku by putting forward irrelevant preconditions. It is important to note that Azerbaijan has taken the initiative to start such a dialogue and by expressing its willingness to host additional meetings, it has demonstrated its true commitment to achieving tangible results. These goodwill gestures should be reciprocated and not abused.
The equal and non-discriminatory provision of human rights requires Armenia to comply with its international obligations by assisting the peaceful, dignified and safe return of Azerbaijanis expelled from this country to their homeland, and ensuring their full enjoyment of their fundamental freedoms recognized by relevant human rights instruments," he said.
