Azerbaijan FM receives newly appointed Greek ambassador, discusses bilateral cooperation

On December 23, 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, received Maria Papakonstantinou, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA.

During the meeting, Ambassador Maria Papakonstantinou presented a copy of her credentials to Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. The Minister congratulated the Ambassador on her appointment and wished her success in her diplomatic activities.

During the meeting, an exchange of views was held on the current state of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Greece, as well as on regional and international issues.

It was noted that the contacts and discussions held between the heads of state and government of the two countries form the foundation of bilateral relations and give impetus to the development of cooperation.

The importance of the bilateral political dialogue, including the regular holding of political and consular consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, was emphasized.

Opportunities for cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investments, conventional and renewable energy, transport and transit, shipping, agriculture, tourism, and culture were discussed. Attention was drawn to the necessity of strengthening the activities of the Joint Commission on economic, industrial, and technological cooperation between Azerbaijan and Greece.

The importance of cooperation based on mutual trust and respect for each other’s legitimate interests within the framework of international and regional formats was noted.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov briefed the ambassador on the situation and new realities that have emerged in the region in the post-conflict period, as well as on the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process.

Ambassador Maria Papakonstantinou expressed her gratitude for the reception and stated that she would spare no effort during her tenure to contribute to the development of Azerbaijan-Greece relations.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
