Azerbaijan and UAE hold first meeting of Cooperation Committee on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

The first meeting of the Cooperation Committee on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates was held in Abu Dhabi, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA.

The committee was established based on the Joint Declaration on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Relations between Azerbaijan and the UAE, signed during the visit of the President of the UAE to Azerbaijan on September 16 of this year. The meeting was chaired by Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yalchin Rafiev, and the UAE’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Saeed Al Hajeri, as co-chairs of the committee.

In accordance with the format of the meeting, first of all, meetings of the subcommittees on political and diplomatic, economic, humanitarian, defense and law enforcement, as well as energy and sustainability issues within the committee were held. During the discussions held within this framework, existing cooperation issues in the respective areas, proposals for the development of mutual relations, and possible projects were considered.

Within the framework of the committee’s work, a one-on-one meeting was held between Deputy Minister Yalchin Rafiev and Minister of State S. Al Hajeri. Subsequently, an expanded meeting was held under the leadership of the co-chairs, with the participation of representatives of the relevant agencies as well as the ambassadors of both countries, during which the co-chairs of the subcommittees provided information on the proposed suggestions and projects. The co-chairs expressed their expectations regarding the conduct of the necessary work, including the coordination and adoption of roadmaps and work plans, in order to achieve concrete results. In addition, the modalities and schedule of the next meetings and the overall work of the committee were determined.

During the meeting, great satisfaction was expressed regarding the dynamic development of Azerbaijan-UAE relations in recent times.

The key role of the reciprocal visits of the heads of state of both countries, as well as the agreements reached and documents signed within the framework of these visits, in elevating our relations to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership was emphasized.

In addition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting was attended by representatives of the ministries of Economy, Energy, Justice, Defense, Internal Affairs, Digital Development and Transport, Science and Education, Culture and Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as the State Tourism Agency, SOCAR, and Azerbaijan Investment Holding.
