Attempts by certain circles in Russia to implement scenarios like Transnistria and Donbass in Garabagh failed - Azerbaijani MP

"Lachin border checkpoint was established as a sovereign right of Azerbaijan and contributes to peace and security in the region based on both international and domestic norms, Azerbaijani MP Bahruz Maharramov told in his interview with APA.

The MP noted that only 2 days except for two days each, during the 120 days of its establishment, this checkpoint was always open for peaceful purposes for the Armenian residents of Garabagh. As for those exceptions, the checkpoint was closed while investigating the results of armed sabotage of Armenia and the smuggling activities of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on the bridge over the Hakari River in the territory of the station, and was reopened after appropriate procedures: "During the entire period, the free passage of the Armenian origin persons was ensured tens of times in a civil manner and both Russian peacekeepers and ICRC officials witnessed this process. On the Azerbaijani side, each passage is documented in an audiovisual manner. However, neither the ICRC nor the Russian side has spoken a single word about the opening of the checkpoint against the background of the calls of the Prime Minister of Armenia, individual politicians, as well as subversive subjects such as France, who do not belong to the region, that the Armenians are under the blockade. It is actually an unacceptable prejudice and also arises serious doubt about the purposes of both peacekeepers and ICRC. Passage of a total of 60 persons from Azerbaijan to Armenia through the Lachin border-crossing checkpoint on the previous day, the majority of them being people having Russian citizenship and carrying Russian passports, moreover, the fact that almost all of them are people who support and attempt to inflame separatism deepens these doubts. It seems that attempts by certain circles in Russia to implement scenarios like Transnistria and Donbass in Garabagh failed. With the resolute behavior of the Azerbaijani side, both separatists with Russian passports and those behind them realized that this is not a state where they can run their own show. This is the reason why people from the mentioned clans fleeing from Garabagh have intensified."

The MP stressed that Azerbaijan has not such a plan to relocate Armenians from Garabagh, however, the will of those who want to move cannot be limited: “Azerbaijani state has repeatedly declared at the highest level that those respecting Azerbaijani laws and voluntarily accept Azerbaijani citizenship can reside in Garabagh. All necessary legal measures will be taken against those who do not accept these conditions, try to inflame separatism intentions again and as well as those residing in Garabagh as a result of illegal relocations, with the stern law."
