"After the quadrilateral meeting held in Chişinău on May 22, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that he unequivocally recognizes Karabakh as a sovereign territory of Azerbaijan," said the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Commission Josep Borrell at the European Parliament (EP) hearing on Azerbaijan-Armenia relations, the situation in Karabakh and the Lachin road, APA reports.
"Both sides have mutually recognized the territorial integrity under specific conditions, and Armenia recognized Karabakh as the territory of Azerbaijan for the first time. However, I cannot say what the final result will be," the diplomat stressed.
Borrell added that the Prime Minister of Armenia unequivocally stated that he recognizes Karabakh as a sovereign territory of Azerbaijan in his press conference after the quadrilateral meeting, and he is the first Armenian leader to make such a statement in this sense.
