The initial price for transit cargo transportation from Azerbaijan to Armenia via Georgian railways is relatively high and uncompetitive, but negotiations are still ongoing, said Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan today in an interview with Radio Liberty's Armenian service, APA reports.

"On one side, there is the Georgian Railway Company, and on the other side, there are companies importing wheat or gasoline. Of course, they should negotiate and find the best option," the minister noted.

Papoyan said that he does not deal with these issues directly.

"In my opinion, now is a very good time to open the land border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Thus, cargo brought to Armenia by rail can be loaded onto trucks in a multimodal manner at the border point and transported via the land border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. I think that there are no conditions that prevent this in either Armenia or Azerbaijan. In my opinion, business is also ready for this," the Armenian minister emphasized.

Papoyan added that if the Azerbaijani side is ready, they can switch to this method.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, touching upon the issue of transit tariffs on Georgian railways, said that if this issue is not resolved, it would be logical for business entities to look for alternative ways to ensure import and export.
