Event on Teodor Shumovski held in St. Petersburg

Azerbaijani consulate general in St. Petersburg organized an event “Four countries – one fortune” devoted to life and creative activity of Teodor Adamovich Shumovski, famous orientalist, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Azerbaijani consul general to St. Petersburg Gudsi Osmanov told the APA. Shumovski is of Polish origin and known as translator of Koran. He was born in 1913 in Ukraine and lived in Azerbaijan since he was two years old. He noted in his memoirs that Karabakh, Shusha, Shamakhy played great role in his choosing profession. Seeing mosques and sacred places in Shamakhy he got interested in oriental studies.
Professors of St. Petersburg State University, famous scientists and cultural figures participated in the event.
Gudsi Osmanov, Azerbaijani orientalists spoke about first dean of St. Petersburg State University Mirza Kazimbey, Aida Imanguliyeva and Shumovski and noted their role not only Azerbaijan’s science but also in the world science. Shumovski book “Light from the east” was also presented at the event. /APA/
