Russian payment system «Mir» cards will stop working in ATMs and POS terminals of most banks in Armenia from March 30, 2024, with the exception of the infrastructure of VTB Armenia (a subsidiary of Russian VTB), APA-Economics reports citing Balalaika.

A representative of VTB Armenia informed RBC about this. Currently, «Mir» cards work in Armenia and are accepted by local banks. A source in the Russian payment market also indicates that the cessation of «Mir» card operations in most banks in the country is imminent.

In Armenia, there are 53 VTB branches, 22 of which are located in Yerevan. Clients also have access to over 190 ATMs across the country. «We continue to work with friendly countries to accept 'Mir' cards in their infrastructure. However, each country makes its own decision on accepting these cards», - said a representative of the Bank of Russia.

«The 'Mir' payment system does not restrict working with foreign partners. However, each country’s banks make their own decision on accepting 'Mir' cards in their device network», - noted a representative of the NSPK. RBC has sent requests to the Central Bank of Armenia and the Armenian payment system ArCa.
