Russian ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv primarily targeted Combined Heat and Power Plant No. 4, a key energy facility in the Ukrainian capital, President Volodymyr Zelensky said, UNIAN reports.
In a post on Telegram, Zelensky said the energy facility had been hit and a residential building damaged.
“Russia launched a ballistic missile attack on Kyiv. Once again, we received no advance warning from our partners. The main target was energy infrastructure, specifically CHP-4. Unfortunately, strikes were recorded. A residential building was also damaged, and rescuers are currently extinguishing the fire,” he said.
The Ukrainian president said the country’s air defence systems detected the ballistic missiles only as they approached Kyiv.
Citing Ukrainian intelligence, Zelensky also claimed that Russia was preparing further ballistic missile launches.
He said that although Ukraine supported halting attacks on energy facilities, Russia continued to target power plants.
“It is important that the world does not remain silent about what is happening. America must see who is responsible for the continuation of the war and what is actually happening,” Zelensky stressed.
