Trilateral talks between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States in the United Arab Emirates are tentatively scheduled for November 4, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated ahead of a Cabinet meeting in Warsaw, The Guardian reports.
He noted that consultations had been held on the advisability of European politicians establishing working contacts ahead of the planned ceasefire talks. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the US side also participated in these consultations.
Tusk said that Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre contacted him before their phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, expressing their readiness to assume political responsibility for this contact. They also emphasized that they would remain committed to the agreed position of the "Coalition of the Willing."
According to the Polish Prime Minister, Alexander Stubb briefed him after the phone conversation. He emphasized that both sides maintained their positions during the conversation. The European side's impression was one of "very cautious optimism" regarding the prospects for achieving progress in Abu Dhabi.
Tusk said he was cautious about contacts with Russia and urged Stubb and Støre to remain vigilant in their talks with Putin.
"Russia's agenda and interests are quite clearly defined. There should be no illusions that an agreement will be reached," Tusk added.
