Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili has commented on the closure of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation’s office in Tbilisi, APA’s local bureau reports.
The Speaker said that the Georgian government had proposed that the organization remove political projects from its areas of activity.
He noted that the foundation was not interested in non-political activities in Georgia.
“Foreign parties and foundations have no political mission to carry out in Georgia. Imagine if Georgian Dream started engaging in political activities in Germany. I very much doubt that the German authorities would allow Georgian Dream to carry out a political mission in Berlin or any other city,” Shalva Papuashvili added.
The Speaker of Parliament noted that the Georgian people have lost trust in organizations engaged in donor activities in Georgia because foreign funding is being used to promote a radical political agenda in the country.
It should be noted that the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, which is closely affiliated with Germany’s conservative Christian Democratic Union party, explained the closure of its Tbilisi office by citing the political and legal environment established by the Georgian government.
