NATO’s “open door” policy has turned into a false hope, said the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, at a briefing, APA’s local bureau reports.
He noted that if the Alliance wanted, it could have admitted members like Finland and Sweden within a month.
“It seems that this willingness was not serious towards us. NATO’s ‘open door’ policy was by no means an ‘open door’ policy. This policy is simply about giving false hopes to all people,” the speaker added.
According to Papuashvili, Georgia has done its best to show that it takes NATO membership seriously: “In return, we faced a constant search for reasons and excuses for not being admitted to NATO. Georgia fully met NATO membership criteria in terms of both military compatibility and institutional development.”
