French President Emmanuel Macron visited the Gironde region, the area most affected by wildfires in southwestern France, and said that the last 24 hours "have gone well," but tomorrow will "undoubtedly" be "more complicated", APA reports.
"We have a situation that is more difficult than at any time since the Second World War," the French head of state stated during his visit to the Bordeaux Fire and Rescue Operations Center in Gironde. He noted that 200 houses have been burnt so far, stressing that "all those who have lost everything" will have the government's support.
"The priority is obviously lives. When it's necessary to relocate people, we relocate them. When it's necessary to sacrifice forest or sometimes material goods, we do it," Macron underlined, ensuring that France will "win the battle against this fire."
