European officials are considering the possibility that individual countries could revise their policies on Ukraine following upcoming elections in France and Germany, Reuters reported.
The discussions reportedly focus on the potential electoral gains of political forces seeking to change their countries’ current approach to supporting Ukraine, including France’s National Rally and Germany’s Alternative for Germany (AfD).
However, European officials told Reuters that the European Union would remain capable of supporting Kyiv despite potential shifts in the positions of individual member states.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys said the forthcoming elections were among the factors being considered when assessing the prospects for future assistance to Ukraine.
