The transit of Kazakh oil via the Druzhba oil pipeline will be resumed as soon as technical capabilities are restored, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy Erlan Akkenzhenov told journalists, TASS reports.

“In the current situation, this (information about the suspension of transit – ed.) applies only to May, because our indicative for the second quarter (planned supply volume – ed.) has been set at zero by the Russian side for all three months. However, I have spoken with my colleagues, I will not name them, and as soon as the issue of technical capabilities is resolved, the transit of Kazakh oil will be resumed,” the minister said.

He added that during the planned temporary suspension, Kazakhstan is redistributing oil supplies to other routes. Thus, additional volumes will also be transported via the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC).

“There are no plans to reduce production. We have the ability to redirect these volumes to other routes,” Yerlan Akkenzhenov emphasized.

The minister also noted that it is possible to redirect oil toward China.

Note that Kazakhstan also transports oil via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline.

Recall that earlier, Reuters, citing sources, reported that Russia plans to halt exports of Kazakh oil to Germany via the Druzhba pipeline starting from May 1. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said he was not aware of this information and referred the inquiry to the relevant companies.
