Azerbaijan to transport 1 bcm of gas to Italy, 200  mcm to Albania next year via TAP

Within the framework of the 10th Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting and the 2nd Green Energy Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting, the Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov has met with Luca Schieppati, Managing Director of TAP, the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan told APA-Economics.

During the meeting, the discussions took place on the works carried out on the first stage of the expansion of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) by an additional 1.2 bcm from 2026, the progress of market testing for the next expansion, the development of regional gas supply infrastructures.

It was stated that the pipeline will be ready for additional supply by the end of 2025 and 1 bcm of gas will be transported to Italy and 200 million cubic meters to Albania. Luca Schieppati, emphasizing that TAP is meeting a significant part of the gas demand of European countries, including Italy, noted that Azerbaijan’s gas plays an important role in energy security.

The opinions were widely exchanged on the electrification of the compressor station located in Greece and Albania in order to achieve carbon neutrality, as well as, the prospects for the supply of hydrogen and other renewable gases within the framework of increasing the transmission capacity of the pipeline at the meeting.
