The majority of carbon emissions into the atmosphere in Azerbaijan come from the energy sector and transportation, Deputy Head of the Development of Renewable Energy Areas Department of the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency (AREA) Sahib Khalilov said during the Caspian Energy Meet Up on Green World Solidarity Year organized by the Caspian Energy Club, APA-Economics reports.

According to him, relevant works are carried out in the direction of development of the field of renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan to prevent the aforementioned and to contribute to the prevention of global climate changes.

"The implementation of large-scale projects in this field has already been started. In October 2023, the "Garadagh" solar power plant, constructed by the Masdar company, was commissioned," Sahib Khalilov noted.

According to him, the activity of this station will prevent the emission of approximately 400,000 carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere per year.
