The Shanghai Cooperation Organization's Observation Mission monitored the snap parliamentary elections held on September 1, Nuran Niyazaliyev, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), said at a press conference, APA reports.
"The aim of the Azerbaijani government's invitation to international observers was to conduct the snap parliamentary elections openly and transparently. Our Observation Mission consisted of 16 people and was made up of representatives of the organization. We were provided with all the opportunities to observe freely. At the same time, journalists were also given all the necessary opportunities. This also creates a basis for the elections to be conducted in a democratic and transparent manner. I should also note that the elections were conducted very calmly and smoothly, under democratic principles," Niyazaliyev emphasized.
