The year 2023 is considered the warmest year in the world, the average temperature was 1.66 degrees, President of The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) Hasan Mandal said at the general meeting held in Azerbaijan National Academy of Science (ANAS) today, APA reports.

He noted that an average of 1.50 degrees in temperature increase is considered as a threat: "The geography we live in requires the joint approach of Türkiye and Azerbaijan to these processes. In the conditions of such important global warming and climate change, the holding of an important event like COP29 in Azerbaijan this year is very critical. As Türkiye, we will worthily support the holding of COP29 by standing with Azerbaijan."

He added that it is unfortunate that serious changes in the climate and warming continue while the implementation of the decisions adopted at COP28 is being discussed.
