Panamanian Minister confident Azerbaijan will successfully host COP29

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov has met with Panamanian Foreign Minister Janaina Tewaney on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, the Ministry told APA.

The meeting saw discussions on the prospects for development of bilateral and multilateral relations between the two countries.

The FMs noted that, despite the geographical distance between Azerbaijan and Panama, there are opportunities for further development of cooperation between the two countries in a variety of fields, including economy, transportation, investments, alternative energy, culture, humanitarian and other domains. The sides stressed the importance of holding political consultations between the two countries to fully utilize the existing potential in this regard. The FMs also underlined the significance of further advancing multilateral cooperation within international organizations.

The Foreign Minister of Panama was informed about preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) that will be held in Azerbaijan this year.

FM Bayramov highlighted the large-scale reconstruction and reconstruction projects implemented by Azerbaijan in the region during the post-conflict period, as well as the normalization and peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Minister Janaina Tewaney congratulated Azerbaijan on its chairmanship of COP29, expressing her confidence that Azerbaijan will be able to successfully host this event. The minister of Panama affirmed her country’s readiness to share its experience in the field of environmental protection and reducing carbon emissions to zero. Janaina Tewaney underscored that such contacts are useful in discussing the prospects for development of relations between the two countries.

The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
