"It is important to create infrastructure for renewable energy," Francesco La Camera, the Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) said at the panel discussion "From good words to good deeds" within the framework of the XI Baku Global Forum, APA reports.

He said the task before COP29 is to ensure reconciliation with reality: "That is, reconciliation of countries' obligations with reality. I look forward to COP29's contributions to the energy transition process."

The Director General addressed the basic requirements for renewable energy. He said that the first issue is not having the infrastructure for this. "I will even mention that sometimes it is cheaper to build this infrastructure than to maintain other traditional energy infrastructure. Infrastructure is the main task, the priority, and without it, you will not be able to use the potential of renewable energy. Another issue is finding the market. At the same time, it is important to build institutional capacity. For example, most countries have energy and gas ministries but no renewable energy-related institutions.

The importance of skills in the transition to green energy, including the need for a skilled workforce, should be emphasized. There should be changes in the curricula of universities, workers in this field should be trained," he stressed.
