The ongoing threat of landmines in the Garabagh and Eastern Zangazur economic regions not only poses a danger to people's lives but also slows down the economic revival processes, Deputy Economy Minister of Azerbaijan Sahib Mammadov said during a meeting of the Joint Government-UN Steering Committee on the implementation of the 'UN-Azerbaijan 2021–2025 Framework Document on Cooperation on Sustainable Development, APA reports.

He stated that mines in general are a serious pressure on the region's ecological environment: "It is not coincidental that the head of the state initiated the initiative of adding mine clearance to the UN 2030 Agenda as the 18th Sustainable Development Goal. COP29 can serve as an important platform for promoting the 18th National SDG project put forward by Azerbaijan in the international community."

"I hope that the projects implemented jointly with the UN will contribute to the implementation of our country's priorities in the fight against climate change and adaptation, the successful holding of COP29 in our country, and other areas," added the deputy minister.
