NATO has said there were about 40,000 Russian troops in the area in recent weeks, the Interfax news agency reported.
"We're always being told that our forces on the Ukrainian border are a concern. We have withdrawn them.
“Today they are not on the Ukrainian border, they are in places where they conduct their regular tasks on training grounds," President Putin was quoted as saying.
Putin also said they support holding international round table for discussion of the situation in Ukraine: “I recently met with Angela Merkel. She offered to hold round table on Kyiv’s southeast dialogue. We support it. Everything should be done that the people in the southeast of Ukraine to believe that their legal rights will be guaranteed after presidential elections on May 25”.
