Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada asks UN for emergency intervention in Crimea

Baku – APA. Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada appealed to the United Nations to solve the problem in Crimea. APA reports quoting korrespondent.net that 250 MPs voted for the appeal. The appeal says that in accordance with the first paragraph of article 1 of the UN Charter, third and fourth paragraphs of article 2, second paragraph of article 11, Ukraine as one of the founders of the United Nations, calls the organization for urgent consideration of situation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea arisen as a result of flagrant violation of the basic principles of international law by the Russian Federation.


The document says that according to the right of self-defense envisaged in article 51 of the UN Charter, Ukraine retains its right to ask any country or regional collective security system for military assistance to ensure its territorial integrity, if needed.


Verkhovna Rada passed a decision on the restoration of European integration policy of Ukraine. 252 MPs voted for the decision. “European integration policy of Ukraine has been restored, I congratulate the people of Ukraine on this occasion,” said Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, acting President Alexander Turcinov.
