The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry voiced deep concern over dispersal of supporters of Ukraine’s European integration who had staged a rally on Kiev’s Independence Square.
“The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry shares profound concern in connection with violent standoff on Independence Square over the past few days. An objective investigation which is being carried out at the request of the Ukrainian president will give a legal assessment to that confrontation,” the statement said.
“The Ukrainian people who have many times demonstrated wisdom, tolerance and respect for human values consider the right to hold peaceful assemblies, freedom of speech and observation of human rights to be the fundamental principles of developing a democratic society,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said, adding that Ukraine would remain committed to the ideas of protection of basic rights and freedoms and introduction of European norms and standards.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry pledged to exert decisive efforts to successfully implement the country’s course towards European integration.
