“There are some basic things that can not be the subject of any compromise. First, Ukraine will not be federal, but will remain as a unitary state. Second, the choice of Europe is not the subject to debate. Third, the only official language is and will be Ukrainian, but no one will ever encroach for people’s to speak Russian and other languages,” said the president
Note that, Russia demands that Ukraine is federalized and Russian accepted as the second state language. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reiterated this position during yesterday’s press conference. He said it’s hard to understand why Ukraine wants to remain as a unitary state.
“It seems the Ukrainian government is trying to speak about a constitutional reform. But they even perceive words like “federalization”, “autonomy” and “decentralization” as offensive,” said the foreign minister.
