A rally on Tuesday was held in a format of an “open marathon” and featured no party symbols. Participants demanded the resignation of the Ukrainian president and government. Organizers mounted loudspeakers and parked jeeps around the central square to spotlight the statue of the Duke of Richelieu. They served hot tea to those present and played music.
On Monday evening, the Odessa City Council adopted a message to President Viktor Yanukovich asking him “to take measures to stabilize the situation in the country basing on the people’s will.” Odessa’s lawmakers accused “opposition politicians of attempting to come to power by unconstitutional means.
