Baku. Malahat Najafova, Rashad Suleymanov – APA. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has arrived at an agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on arms supplies.

Adviser to the Ukrainian Interior Minister, MP Anton Gerashchenko wrote about this on his Facebook page, APA reported. He announced that the agreement was reached during the meeting between the Ukrainian president and Mohammed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. The talks took place in Abu Dhabi as part of Petro Poroshenko’s participation in the IDEX-2015 exhibition.

Gerashchenko did not elaborate on the types and amounts of arms and weaponry to be bought from the UAE.

“Unlike the Europeans and Americans, the Arabs are not intimidated by Putin’s threats that a third world war might start if Ukraine is given weapons and military equipment. They seem to have some scores to settle with Putin due to factors like the double increase in oil prices and global instability which are an obstacle to the long-term development of the UAE,” said the statement.

An APA correspondent to Abu Dhabi reported that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, who joined the IDEX-2015 exhibition, has held a press briefin, and that the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding in the military-technical area. The president noted that the sides held important negotiations on arms sales, which will increase the country’s defense capability: “We are increasing our military power in order to defend our country and protect its territorial integrity. We do not intend to attack anywhere,” he said.
