Syrian authorities would also be satisfied with US-initiated UN resolution, says Putin

“Nobody has a right to impose who should be a country's leader. It is only up to the Syrian people to decide. But we support the initiative of the US on preparing the UN resolution. I think the Syrian authorities would also be satisfied with this after they familiarize themselves with the draft.

We will never agree to any external force determining who will run the country. It goes against all international law, it is up to the Syrian people. Compromises are possible from both sides. Still work to be done though. We will support the resolution of this crisis,” he noted.

“As far as the base, do we need a military base in Syria? Who knows, it is expensive and hard work. I am not sure we need a base in Syria. If we need to reach someone, we will reach them,” said Putin.
