Baku. Turbat Baghirova – APA. The U.S. stands ready to combine efforts with Russia in the fight against terrorism in Syria in case Bashar al-Assad steps down as Syrian president, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, RBK reported.
He made the remarks at the National Educational Youth Forum in Moscow July 22.
"They say that we can combine anti-terrorist efforts, but first we need to agree on the fall of the Assad regime,” the FM said.
Lavrov pointed out that the West demands Assad’s resignation as it considers him a dictator.
“We say, well, now let's put everything in order in counterterrorism and then organize free elections. Let the Syrian people themselves overthrow Assad in a democratic way through voting,” he added.
