Baku-APA. Russia's defense-related orders have seen a five-time year-on-year growth in amount in 2013, a senior official said Wednesday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"A total of 1,376 contracts worth 380 billion rubles (about 10.6 billion U.S. dollars) were concluded in 2013. Their number has more than doubled on 2012 and their amount has increased more than five times," said Nadezhda Sinikova, head of the Federal Agency for Supplies of Arms, Military and Special Equipment and Material, or Rosoboronpostavki.

She told the Itar-Tass news agency that the needs of Russian armed forces have been constantly growing, and so does the annual portfolio of state defense orders.

In 2014, the Russian military supplies agency expects to sign about 1,000 contracts for over 140 billion rubles (about 3.9 billion dollars) for the Defense Ministry, Sinikova said.

In addition, Rosoboronpostavki plans to sign about 500 contracts worth 4.5 billion rubles (125 million dollars) with such law enforcement bodies as the Federal Security Service, the Interior Ministry and the Emergency Situations Ministry, up 30 percent from the figure in 2013, she said.
