Moscow has already recognized the elections, APA reports citing foreign sources.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday that Moscow respects the will expression of the citizens of the illegal republics of Donetsk and Luhansk.
“Now the most important issue is to begin building dialogue between the central government of Ukraine and Donbas representatives. We, alongside our international partners, are ready to help stabilize the current situation in Ukraine”, the statement said.
The U.S. stated that it doesn’t recognize the elections. Mark Stroh, a spokesperson for the US National Security Council, said the United States will not recognize the results of the elections held in the self-proclaimed people's republics of Donetsk and Luhansk (DPR and LPR).
“We condemn the illegitimate, so-called local 'elections' conducted today by separatists in parts of eastern Ukraine. The holding of these 'elections' contravenes Ukraine's constitution and laws, and the September 5 Minsk Protocol. We still call on Russia and pro-Russian separatists to fulfill their commitments to the Minsk agreements", Stroh said Sunday.
EU’s new foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, said in her turn the European Union will not recognize the elections held in eastern Ukraine.
