The UN General Assembly on Thursday elected five non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for 2016-2017: Egypt, Senegal, Ukraine, Uruguay and Japan.
"We hope that participating in the work of this UN body, which bears the main responsibility for maintenance of international peace and security, these states will actively contribute to the strengthening of the organization’s central role in global affairs, boosting its efficiency and authority in the implementation of the global agenda, speak for politico-diplomatic settlement of crisis situations on the basis of strict adherence to the goals and principles of the UN Charter and international law," the ministry said.
"On our part, we are ready for constructive cooperation with newlyelected members of the Security Council," it said.
