Russia Investigative Committee: 350 children committed suicide this year

Baku. Farid Akbarov – APA. The number of suicides among teenagers in Russia is three times more than the average rate worldwide, Vladimir Markin, special representative of Russia’s Investigative Committee, said Monday, APA’s Moscow correspondent reported.

“This year alone, 350 children committed suicide. This figure excludes suicide attempts. In 2015, more than 460 children made suicide attempts, which is thrice more than the average rate worldwide. What’s even more frightening is that there are some groups on social networks who call children to committee suicide.

Markin noted that those who have committed suicide are children of normal and simple families.

“They are not abandoned children. Rather, they were going to fill the ranks of tomorrow’s healthy society. For this reason, the Investigative Committee proposes amendments to the criminal code about criminal charges against calls to suicide among teenagers. The Committee proposes seven years for promotion of suicide among teenagers.
