S. Lavrov commented on Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s decision on declaring a “day of silence” on December 9: “It’s not right to only think about meeting your own passion, it’s also necessary to think of the Ukrainian people’s fate. Discussing issues that are settled on the basis of the Minsk agreements without the participation of the rebels is non-sense”.
The FM said ceasefire has already been declared, it has resulted in a major reduction of violence, but has not resulted in the complete establishment of the ‘silence regime’.
He also stressed there are wide opportunities and expectations for economic and humanitarian cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union, adding that the establishment of economic ties will be of great importance to the regional people.
