Baku-APA. Russia wants to cooperation with Turkey to ensure security of the Sochi Olympics, President Vladimir Putin said Friday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Putin, speaking at a meeting of the Russian-Turkish High-Level Cooperation Council in the Russian city of St. Petersburg, said contacts between Russian and Turkish law enforcement authorities and security agencies have been expanding, especially in the war against terrorism.

"We are also interested in close cooperation in provision of security at the Sochi Games," Putin noted.

The Russian president also thanked Turkish partners for playing active role in building Sochi Olympic sites.

Russia has been bolstering its security preparations in recent months for the Winter Games. Earlier this month, Russia's Federal Security Service resumed its cooperation with Britain, with the two sides agreeing to exchange information for safe preparations and holding the 2014 Winter Games.

The 22nd Winter Olympic Games, the first time to be held in Russia, are slated for Feb. 7 to 23 in the North Caucasus city of Sochi.
