Russia, Iranian diplomats discuss Syrian, Yemeni settlement â€” Russian foreign ministry

"The sides exchanged views on pressing issues of the regional agenda with a focus on the Syrian and Yemeni settlement," the ministry said.

"The sides agreed that coordinated international efforts are needed to counter terrorist threat, in particular the Islamic State, Jabhat al-Nusra and other extremist groups. They called for the soonest launch of the negotiating process between the Syrian government and a wide spectrum of the Syrian opposition on the basis of the Geneva communique of June 30, 2012 and with efficient international support, in line with the Vienna statement of October 30," the ministry said.

The two diplomats noted the importance of further coordination between the two countries in regional affairs, including in the Vienna format of the group of Syria’s frineds.
