The Armenian newspaper “168 jam” wrote that people who spend less than 5 US dollars daily are categorized as poor. The newspaper adds that the World Bank defines the poverty criteria based on two indicators—expenditure of 2.5 dollars daily and 5 dollars daily.
On 2.5 dollar calculation, the poverty rate in Armenia made 26 percent in 2014. On 5 dollar calculation, 76 percent of the Armenian population lives in poverty.
According to the National Statistics Service, the poverty rate in Armenia included 30 percent of the population at the end of 2014.
