Baku – APA. Petro Poroshenko took oath of office as Ukraine's fifth president during a special meeting of parliament, APA reports quoting Kyiv Post.

 

Poroshenko swore on the manuscript of Peresopnytsya Gospel to serve Ukraine and preserve its territorial integrity and unity. Head of Constitution Court handed Poroshenko the symbols of presidency - the president's stamp, mace and badge.

 

After swearing in as Ukrainian president, Poroshenko went to Sofiyivska Square in central Kyiv, where the ceremonial introduction of the commanders of Ukraine's military forces will take place.

 

Poroshenko, 49, a billioner and parliament member, was elected as Ukrainian president in the emergency election on May 25. He won in first round with 54.7 percent of votes. Before taking the oath of office, Poroshenko resigned as lawmaker. He also promised to sell Roshen, his confectionary business.

 

About 60 delegations participated in the inauguration ceremony. Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Lithuanian President Dalia GrybauskaitÄ—, Swiss President, OSCE Chairman-in-Office Didier Burkhalter, Slovenian President Borut Pahor, Estonian President Toomas Ilves, President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier, UN Under-Secretary-Genera Jeffrey Feltman and U.S. Vice-President Joe Biden were among them

 

Azerbaijan was represented by Speaker of Parliament Ogtay Asadov. Russian Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov also attended the ceremony.
