Baku-APA.  Ukrainian President-elect Petro Poroshenko said on Wednesday he was ready to sign the economic part of Ukraine’s free trade agreement with the European Union immediately after his inauguration scheduled for June 7, APA reports quoting ITAR-TASS.

Candy-making billionaire Poroshenko who had won Ukraine’s May 25 early presidential elections made this statement at a meeting with Austrian President Heinz Fischer in Warsaw, the president-elect’s press office reported.

“We defended the aspiration for Eurointegration on the Maidan (Independence Square in the center of Kiev) and that is why I’m ready to sign the economic part of the association agreement and launch the free trade zone with the EU immediately after inauguration,” Poroshenko said.

President Viktor Yanukovych’s refusal to sign an association agreement with the EU in late 2013 sparked protests in the Ukrainian capital, which led to a coup and forced Yanukovych to leave the country.

Poroshenko and the Austrian president also discussed a plan to stabilize the situation in east Ukraine and top priority measures to restore law and order, Poroshenko’s press office said.

“I ran for president with the slogans of peace and that is why I consider it necessary to establish peace in Ukraine,” the press office quoted Poroshenko as saying.
