Baku – APA. President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has congratulated the homecoming Nadezhda Savchenko, imprisoned in Russia into the murder of Russian journalists in Donbass, and pardoned on Wednesday.
“Our Nadia is already on Ukrainian soil. I am glad to congratulate her on the return. I congratulate Ukrainians and the whole world on our victory. We will continue our struggle for the liberation of all Ukrainian captives,” President Poroshenko wrote on his Facebook page.
Nadezhda Savchenko, born in 1981, a lieutenant in the Ukrainian army, was captured by Russian-backed separatists while fighting in east Ukraine in June 2014. She was later spirited across the border and put on trial in Russia for the murder of two Russian journalists who were killed by shelling on the same day she was taken prisoners. Today, Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree to pardon Ukrainian pilot Nadia Savchenko.
