Poroshenko, Merkel, Hollande demand foreign troop withdrawal from Ukraine, closure of Ukraine-Russia border

The statement says the sides supported a peaceful solution to the conflict in Donbass, and expressed their hope that it would also be in Russia’s interest.

“Poroshenko, Merkel and Hollande discussed specific steps aimed at ensuring the implementation of the Minsk agreements that are the base for the settlement of the conflict, and developed common new proposals concerning further steps. The Ukrainian president asked European leaders to help secure the release of Nadezhda Savchenko, a Ukraine pilot who is in prison in Russia”.

Valery Chaly, deputy head of Ukraine’s Presidential Administration, said the meeting focused on the discussion of quite new proposals – the implementation and development of the Minsk agreements.

“I hope we’ll be heard in the Kremlin. The talks did not focus on some document by Putin,” he said.

Note that, Merkel and Hollande returned to their countries after the meeting, and today will fly to Moscow to negotiate with Vladimir Putin.
