Police confirm arrest of 31 people in Kiev, U.S. Ambassador condemns use of force against peaceful protesters

“31 people were detained for disorderly conduct and resistance. They were taken to the Shevchenko District Police Office. Most of them were released after the preparation of administrative protocols,” said Olga Bilyk.

U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Jeffrey Payette objected and condemned the use of force against protesters.

The police have dispersed the pro-EU integration protesters in Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square) in Kiev.

At 04:00, the Ukrainian special police forces “Berkut” started to disperse protesters, when there were several hundred of people at the square.

It is reported that dozens of people were injured and arrested during the dispersion of the protest.

At present, the square is under the blockade of police employees. Public services staff is cleaning the square.
