Kremlin denies alleged threats during Putin-Poroshenko phone conversation

“It is true that Putin and Poroshenko talked by telephone on Wednesday evening at Ukraine’s initiative,” Russian presidential press-secretary Dmitry Peskov told TASS.

“Bilateral relations and the situation in the south-east of Ukraine were discussed,” he added.

“Various reports by a number of mass media, in the first place, Ukrainian, regarding the content of the conversation are fiction and have nothing to do with the reality,” Peskov said.

Earlier, media claimed Putin and Poroshenko had allegedly touched upon the theme of Ukraine’s relations with NATO. Some argued that the Russian president uttered threats against his Ukrainian counterpart. A short while later Ukraine dismissed these rumours. The chief of the Ukrainian presidential department of information, Irina Frits, said the media rumours of any threats were not true.
