Fresh violence in eastern Ukraine leaves 5 dead

Baku-APA. At least five people were killed and 17 others wounded during fighting in war-torn areas in eastern Ukraine over the past day, officials said Wednesday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

 

Two government soldiers were killed and 13 injured as Ukrainian forces positions came under heavy fire across Donetsk and Lugansk regions, Andrei Lysenko, spokesman for the National Security and Defense Council said at his daily media briefing.

 

Separately, three civilians were killed when shelling hit a government-controlled Toshkovka village on the frontline of fighting with rebel forces in Lugansk region, local authorities said.

 

According to Gennady Moskal, the head of Lugansk Regional Administration, four other civilians, including a 5-year-old child and a 6-month-old infant were seriously wounded during the bombardment.

 

More than 4,132 people have died in eastern Ukraine fighting since April and thousands of civilians have fled the conflict areas.

 

According to the report issued by the Ukrainian Social Policy Ministry earlier in the day, at least 466,000 people from the restive eastern regions were displaced within the country.
