Fighting erupts in Donbass

Yengeny Deidei, the commander of the Ukrainian army’s Kiev-1 battalion, wrote on his Facebook that their positions had been targeted with heavy artillery fire since 4:50 AM. “There are injuries. Maryinka and Krasnogorovka are on fire. Fierce fighting is raging along the contact line”.

The army’s 28th detached mechanized brigade, who are in charge of defending the area, also have confirmed the fact on Facebook. “The enemy has launched a large-scale offensive on our positions in Maryinka town, firing on us with artillery, mortar launchers, and multiple launch rocket systems all night long”.

Evgeniy Silkin, the press secretary of Ukraine’s Anti-Terror Headquarters, said the attacking group is possibly over 1,000, adding that the enemy is using tanks and Grad installations.

Anatoly Lysenko, the spokesperson for the Presidential Administration’s anti-terror operation, also confirmed the use of heavy artillery in the battle but ruled out that this is not a large-scale attack. “What happened today in the direction of Donetsk can be regarded as an attempt to attack. We can’t say this was a large-scale offensive, but the situation is tense”.

According to the latest reports, one Ukrainian soldier has died, 30 others have been injured.
